Walmart offers holiday layaway starting Sept. 14

Get a head start on your holiday shopping at at Walmart this year.

Walmart is offering layaway services to its customers for holiday time purchases starting on Sept. 14. This is the second year in a row Walmart is offering layaway since it discontinued the program in 2006. The company revamped layaway last year when the rise of credit cards eliminated a need for it.

Layaway offers shoppers a payment plan for purchases made in stores without interest or threat of hurting a credit score.

At Walmart, customers put $10 or 10 percent down on a minimum $50 purchase or $15 per individual item and pay a one time $15 fee. Final payments must be made on or before Dec. 14.

If canceled, reserved items will be returned to inventory and payments will be refunded. The first time $15 fee will not be refunded.

Other store chains like Sears, Kmart and Toys R Us offer layaway programs.

Dollar Tree stores will begin taking manufacturer coupons on Sunday, Aug. 26, the company announced on its Facebook fan page.

So far, the company has not released its written coupon policy, but mommy bloggers are posting info provided by store managers who have the policy.

Considering Dollar Tree sells everything for $1, cents-off coupons, esecially 50-cent-off and $1-off, would provide significant savings.

The Chesapeake, Virginia-based discount retailer has 4,000 U.S. stores.

More info when we get it from the company's media relations department.
