In a letter to customers, Apple CEO Tim Cook apologizes for Apple Maps, and says the company will strive to improve.

"At Apple, we strive to make world-class products that deliver the best experience possible to our customers. With the launch of our new Maps last week, we fell short on this commitment. We are extremely sorry for the frustration this has caused our customers and we are doing everything we can to make Maps better."

He goes on to point out how to download map apps from the App stores and also explains how to get Google Maps back.

SoFla Firefighter Calendar hotties headline free fashion shows in Boca Raton

Where's the fire, lady?

It's on the runway as hotties from the 2013 South Florida Firefighter Calendar make torrid tracks while headlining two days of fashion shows at Town Center at Boca Raton.

The free, fashionable fun heats up at Simon Fashion Now in the mall's center court at 7:30 p.m. Friday and from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday. Expect to see haute showings from Bloomingdale's, Neiman Marcus, Elie Tahari, Charles David and other retailers.

"We love doing these events to help support our charities," says Luis Espinosa, the calendar's founder and CEO. "The guys do take off their shirts, and the ladies do get pretty excited. It's a win-win for everyone. We have a great time."

Designs emphasize the tough-girl look, with chunky hardware and leather, muted reptile and animal prints, sleeveless sheaths, drapey sweaters, brilliant jewel tones and every shade of green.

"Tough looks are ruling the runways with leather for fall," says Jacque Ellis, the Simon style expert who is coordinating the event.

"Hardware details such as chains, studs and big buckles in gold and silver are giving a very rough edge to accessories, boots and booties with open toes. They work really well for South Florida. It gives the look and still keeps you cool."

In between runway shows, there will be contests, prizes, swag bags stuffed with cosmetics and treats, and giveaways of luxury boots and leather goods.

At noon Saturday, Design Wars will get rolling with a "Project Runway"-style competition between Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale students.

In a move that would do Lady Gaga proud, this year's creations must incorporate food from the mall's food court, the Cafes at Boca. The audience will get to vote for their fave designers via text after the show.

At 1 p.m., the Nordstrom Runway Trend Show will parade the latest from Guess, Banana Republic and Juicy Couture, followed by the Shoe and Accessory Show at 2:30, offering wardrobe flourishes from Tous, Swarovski and Campo Marzio Design.

The South Florida Firefighter Calendar boys will sell their charity calendar from 1 to 5 p.m. and will strut their stuff at 3 p.m., modeling looks from Men's Warehouse and Tux.

Don't forget your wallet — or your fire extinguisher.

Town Center at Boca Raton is at 6000 Glades Road, 561-368-6000, SimonMall.com.
